A picture of Robin McCoy leaning against a concrete column. The text reads: "Robin McCoy For State Senate District 5. Progress is here."

Robin McCoy was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and graduated from Berkmar High School in Lilburn. Robin went on to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in History and Government. As an underclassman, she started the ABAC Gaming Club, and later the ABAC Political Science Club. Robin then studied environmental public policy, American public policy, and public administration at Colorado State University, where she was also a graduate teaching assistant.

Upon her return to Georgia, Robin spent time working at the Boys and Girls Club in Lawrenceville, helping administrate after-school activities. She also worked as a facilitator for an LGBTQIA+ teen support group, which guided Robin toward further involvement with LGBTQIA+ advocacy work at the Georgia State Capitol. Through her advocacy work with PFLAG, she analyzed bills introduced by the general assembly, organized community members to engage with their elected officials, and even led classes that informed people how to engage with their government on a deeper level than the average voter.

Platform

Civil Rights

McCoy wants to protect Georgian’s civil rights by introducing a bill that defends the rights of vulnerable Georgians on a grand scale by protecting them regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or disability status.

Housing

McCoy plans to introduce a Tenant Bill of Rights that will set the standard for establishing freedoms for tenants and limitations for those in power. McCoy also wants to close loopholes that allow hedge funds and large investment firms to box out the housing market. Additionally, McCoy wants to prioritize first-time home buyers and those that are moving from a single-family household into another should have priority in the market to those making investments.

Transit

Gwinnettians currently face one of the longest average commutes in Georgia. McCoy will encourage equitable investment and focus of transportation funds and efforts to build infrastructure to help all Senate District 5 constituents.
